This portfolio showcases the perspectives of young people across the UK on issues they have chosen to highlight and explore. Young people are too often excluded from public, media and political debate around issues that affect them more than anyone. LOOKOUT aims to address that, and to show how any young person can use the power of multimedia to amplify their voices and speak out. LOOK OUT. SPEAK OUT. MAKE A CHANGE.

Gangs and Crime

Don't project your own fears onto us - not all young people are a lost cause or hooligans.

Leaving their mark makes people feel intimidated.

In Camden they use bullets as belts, but in Peckham we use them to kill.

Don't project your own fears onto us - not all young people are a lost cause or hooligans.
Substance Abuse

I'm standing alone with this item to keep me from going insane.

Standing strong, standing taller than the bottle itself. Problems have smashed and vanished. But they're still here within.

The night is cold. I should be sleeping.

I'm standing alone with this item to keep me from going insane.
Mental Health

Living with depression means I never know what mood I’m going to be in.

Why can’t I stop these evil thoughts? Need to sleep. Need to be.

Don't be scared to ask what's on his mind

Living with depression means I never know what mood I’m going to be in.
Private Space

Wise words. Strong love with age.

My thoughts run through this mug every day.

Love can make people happy and feel like they are on top of the world. Love can also make them feel like the floor is swallowing them down.

Wise words. Strong love with age.
Being Heard

Looking forward towards a better future should be a given right.

STOP Restricting ME!

Gangsters without a voice - they have their own stories.

Looking forward towards a better future should be a given right.

One of the most basic human rights is for somewhere safe and stable to live, yet homelessness continues to be one of the worst social problems in Britain today. This photograph was taken as a reminder of how inhumane it is to allow people to live in these circumstances.

"Without judgement, good can prosper." The right side of my photograph expresses how people often tell me they see me. When someone is judged by their appearance or opinions it stifles the real person often crushing creativity and confidence. When free to be oneself, the positive energy created is of benefit to us all.

The Amnesty International Young Human Rights Photographer Awards inspire young people to look creatively at the world around them and take a photograph that captures a human rights issue they are passionate about.
Aspirations

Dreams are at the shallow end, sometimes you just don't see it.

Expect nothing and you will feel nothing.

We all take different paths but which way will we go?

Dreams are at the shallow end, sometimes you just don't see it.
Messages to Peers

When two become one and things get tough just remember…

Money don’t just change you, it changes the people around you.

We want to see the world in different angles

When two become one and things get tough just remember…
Public Perceptions of Youth

If they believe in themselves, young people from poor backgrounds can achieve more.

I took this picture because some people will look at it and think he is trying to train the dog to be violent, but really he is just playing with the dog and trying to strengthen it’s jaw.

I may look like a gang member but I'm an innocent child

If they believe in themselves, young people from poor backgrounds can achieve more.
